Our story
In December of 2002 Pastor Rusty Akers was given the challenge to begin a church in the brand new city of Maricopa Az. Three years later on Sep 28th 2005 Community of Hope Church opened the doors for the very first time at Pima Butte Elementary School in Rancho El Dorado. Since the very beginning our mission has been to be the hope of Jesus to all we meet. Our church has been a catalyst in our city for community and hope. We are known for our free movies in the park, our annual living nativity, and the biggest Easter event in the city.
In 2007 we played a vital part in opening up the first food bank in our city. We offered space and support to FOR Maricopa to begin, and to become the major source of food and resources for all of Maricopa. We also began a relationship with City Harvest Church in Nairobi Kenya, who we support and visit on an annual basis.
In the spring of 2007 we purchased 15 acres of prime real estate located next door to our only city park. In a block buster, God ordained move, we sold 10 acres to the City of Maricopa. This gave our city two additional fields and much needed parking at our city park. It also set us up to own the corner of the park where our dream is to eventually build a community center that would also serve as our space on Sunday morning.
As of August 2010 we have moved into our own faciltiy located at 18700 N. Porter Rd. We share this facility with Leading Edge Academy, a public charter school.
Our vision continues to be lived out on a daily basis in and around us. We are actively involved in all aspects of our city, and in helping bring good to the world we live in. We believe that we are all a part of God's story, and invite you to join us on the journey of life.
