Rusty Akers - Lead Pastor

tell us a little about you
I'm a second generation Arizona Native, grew up on a farm in the big town of Buckeye Arizona! I have been married to my wife Lisa for 24 years. We have two kids, Sydnee and Grady. I love sports, watching my kids compete, playing golf, hiking, running, eating good food, and just about anything that happens at the beach or in the mountains! I spent the first 20 years of my working life in the agriculture field. I bought and sold grass seed, not that kind of grass, bermuda grass. My midlife crisis was becoming a pastor and planting COH!In my spare time:
I serve as the Chaplain for the Maricopa Fire Department, and on the board of directors for Weekend Missions. I love traveling to and serving in Rocky Point Mexico, and, Kenya Africa. You might also find me chasing around a little white ball on occasion. The Duke and I are very close.
What is something people don't know about you?
When I was 3 years old I accidentally started and crashed a full size tractor into a cotton trailer! I've been pushing the envelope ever since! Why do you love COH
The people! What is your favorite color or super hero?
Don't have a favorite color, I guess my favorite super hero would be "Under Dog". He might not be a super, but you have to love a hero that is picked to lose! "Speed of lighting, roar of thunder!"
How long have you been a Christian and how long have you been coming to COH?
I made a commitment to Jesus as a teenager, but my life changing "Jesus moment" came in June of 1998. This set me on a collision course to become the founding pastor of COH.Although COH didn't begin public gatherings until September of 2005, the dream for the church began in December of 2003, so I would say that is how long I have been a part of it.
