about us

In December of 2002 Pastor Rusty Akers was given the challenge to begin a church in the brand new city of Maricopa, Az.

Sep 18th 2005 Community of Hope Church opened the doors for the very first time at Pima Butte Elementary School in Rancho El Dorado.  Since the very beginning our mission has been to be the hope of Jesus to all we meet. Our desire is to see all people set free. Our church has been a catalyst in our city for community and hope.  We are known for our free movies in the park, our annual living nativity, and the biggest Easter event in the city.

In 2007 we played a vital part in opening up the first food bank in our city.  We offered space and support to F.O.R Maricopa to begin, and to become the major source of food and resources for all of Maricopa.  We also began a relationship with City Harvest Church in Nairobi Kenya, who we support and visit on an annual basis. We have sent missionaries to Bogota Columbia, Kampala Uganda, and Rocky Point Mexico. We make trips to Mexico a few times a year.

In the spring of 2007 we purchased 15 acres of prime real estate located next door to our only city park.  In a block buster, God ordained move, we sold 10 acres to the City of Maricopa.  This gave our city two additional fields and much needed parking at our city park.

In the fall of 2008  we began a partnership Edge Academy on our own property, and met for 7 years at this new location.

In December 2015 we  sold our remaining property to Leading Edge, and have purchased 5 1/4 acres, and a building, that belonged to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. This is located at 45295 W. Honeycutt Ave. across from the Maricopa High School.

August 7th 2016 We celebrated our first Sunday in our own space  We are currently in the process of adding an additional 4,000 sq ft for children, and a preschool.

As you can see from our history, we are a redemptive,  forward moving community. We are committed to connecting people to the Hope of Jesus Christ. Our vision, follows the vision of God, to see people set free from sin and death, and to live the lives that God created them to live. This vision continues to be lived out on a daily basis in and around us.

We are actively involved in all aspects of our city, and in helping bring good to the world we live in. We believe that we are all a part of God’s story, and invite you to join us on the journey of life.
